Personalized and custom services: Members have personal access to an experienced staff focused on public affairs, public relations, research, education and legal and regulatory issues. Staff responds to data needs relating to demographics, occupancy, cost and finances, and managed care utilization as well as a variety of other member needs. They address questions relating to payment from programs such as PMAP and the Moratorium as well as doing facility specific rate analysis. Legislative and Regulatory Leadership: Care Providers of Minnesota has a reputation for a top-notch Public Affairs Program. We are a progressive and effective advocate for long-term care providers in the state. We provide support to our members through legislative and regulatory advocacy. Our advocacy accomplishments include: Development and passage of the nursing home bed layaway proposal Initiation and passage of a significant regulatory reform package to include development of alternative procedures to the nursing home survey process Advocating for rate increases for nursing facilities Promoting the development of a new reimbursement system based on accurate time study information Representation of member interests on numerous policy development workgroups such as workforce recruitment and retention, transition to a new case mix system, development of community service planning, scholarship program implementation, grant request for proposals and legislative implementation. Collection, analysis and distribution of quarterly survey activity data to all Nursing Facility members. This includes anecdotal information about what surveyors say and cite on specific areas and in-depth analysis of selected issues involving climbing scope and severity scores. Work, through the Long-Term Care Imperative collaboration, to truly transform Minnesota's long-term care system into one, which is driven by the preferences of the consumer, rather than that of regulators. The product of this work includes new funding for community-based service grants, funding for planning for nursing facilities, scholarship funds for workers, significant funding for renovations and replacements and a more plain full approach to addressing service gaps. Education: Care Providers of Minnesota provides a wide range of educational opportunities. Our single day workshops focus on topics of daily importance - everything from regulatory and reimbursement issues to dietary programs to staff recruitment and retention offerings. The Core Course Curriculum provides in-depth education for specific disciplines such as our Director of Nursing Education Series, Housing Manager Education Series, Billing Institute and many others. In addition, each year the Association provides members a Spring Conference and fall Convention and Expo to network and learn from colleagues. The Convention is delivered each year in a one-price package so that your entire staff may take advantage of up to 80 sessions and other enriching activities. Knowledge: Care Providers of Minnesota provides information you can use to make sound business decisions, market your facility or residence and understand current trends. At many points throughout the year members receive up-to-the-minute state and national reports on legislation and trends. Business services: Within the Service Corporation, the Health Care Purchasing Alliance, a cooperative endeavor with UHF Purchasing, is dedicated to helping your organization save time and money on the supplies and equipment you purchase every day. Also the Care Providers Insurance Service is a member owned agency designed to provide competitive pricing and comprehensive service specific to the long-term care industry. Our website helps members stay informed about legislative developments, and regulatory, reimbursement and industry business practices. It provides you with access to ACTION newsletter, as well as important documents and links to other industry-related sites. The Jobs Center is a very valuable tool you can use to promote your facility. The American Health Care Association (AHCA): Members have the opportunity to participate at the national level in government affairs, communications, and public relations as well as have instant information on the latest research conducted nationwide on long term care facts and trends.
