Requirements of Participation: Bringing Them To Life
Care Providers of Minnesota's workshop will help facilities prepare to make necessary changes to comply with the new nursing facility regulations that are being enforced in three phases: November 28, 2016, November 2017, and November 2019.

This workshop, featuring Dr. David Gifford, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President of  Quality & Regulatory Affairs, American Health Care Association (AHCA), will include a mix of teaching presentations and multiple interactive exercises using material brought by workshop participants, from their facilities, to help them begin to make changes to comply with the RoP enforced in  Phase I and II.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  1. Recognize the key changes to the Federal Requirements
  2. Identify the necessary actions to take within your facility to successfully comply with new regulations
  3. Integrate learning into an action plan that can be initiated upon return to your facility 
  4. Understand how regulatory changes fit with existing priorities (AHCA Quality Initiative, Quality Award program, and Long-Term Care Trend Tracker)
  5. Understand how integrating all of the components of your organization into a unified system can help your organization succeed

 

TOPICS INCLUDE
  • Admission process including new required resident notifications
  • Changes to the care planning process emphasizing person-centered care and the new baseline care plan
  • Discharge planning
  • Staffing requirements including demonstrating staff competencies and new training requirements, and new policy and procedures
  • New physical building requirements
  • Care practices needing changes
  • Adverse event prevention and monitoring including infection prevention and control and medication prescribing
  • New facility assessment of residents and resources
  • New requirement for a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan

Workshop participants will also learn how existing resources and priorities, including AHCA Quality Initiatives, the Quality Award program, and Long-Term Care Trend Tracker, may assist them in meeting these new requirements.

  • A copy of your facility's most recent standard survey
  • QA committee agenda and reports
  • Discharge summary sample (de-identified) or template
