Care Providers of Minnesota is participating on the 2020 Census Community Partnership Engagement Program because we know how important their goal is: “to count everyone once, only once and in the right place!” The US Census Bureau made a list of the 50 ways the census data is used—some noted below (many of the long-term services and supports (LTSS) grants provided to states under federal programs such as the Older Americans Act are allocated based on census data):
  • Decision making at all levels of government
  • Drawing federal, state, and local legislative districts
  • Attracting new businesses to state and local areas
  • Distributing over $675 billion annually in federal funds—and even more in state funds
  • Forecasting future transportation needs for all segments of the population
  • Planning for hospitals, nursing facilities, clinics, and the location of other health services

What do nursing facilities & assisted living communities need to know about the 2020 Census?

The US Census Bureau identified categories of Minnesotans who have been considered “hard to count” historically with some of the examples being in member settings so we want to do better!!
