Elder Abuse Public Awareness Campaign

Care Providers of Minnesota, along with several other organizations including the Elder Care Rights Alliance, Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care, and Alzheimer’s Association, worked together to develop posters and pocket guides on elder abuse prevention; and to finance their production. In the aftermath of the media coverage of nursing home abuse incidents in 2008, the coalition began meeting to discuss how to publicize the availability of a “safe place” to express concerns or to ask questions before any observation becomes a reportable event under the state’s Vulnerable Adults Act.
