201: COBRA compliance & qualifying events
Audience: All audiences

The presentation will discuss disclosure requirements health plans are required to provide and when employers are subject to COBRA.
Grace Williams, MS, Benefits Advisor, Employee Benefits Security Administration–US Department of Labor

202: Case studies in cybersecurity—Lessons learned the hard way
Audience: All audiences
The last two years have provided significant learning opportunities in incident response. We will explore lessons learned as a result of (1) supply chain software vulnerabilities (e.g., SolarWinds Orion, Log4J); and (2) examples of ransomware attacks that had significant impacts on IT/cyber operations. We will explore strategies to mitigate the risks related to these types of situations and attacks, and discuss the elements and structure of incident response plans.
Randy Romes, CISSP, MCP, PCI-QSA, Principal, CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP

203: It's not just rainbows—Assisted living regualtions, LGBTQ+ & HIV+ residents
Audience: Assisted living facility
As a result of statutory changes passed by the Minnesota Legislature in 2019, the Department of Health implemented regulations pertaining to the operation of assisted living facilities intended to standardize operations. At the same time, these regulations also emphasize person-centered care, recognizing that a “one size fits all” (i.e., standardized) approach does not always succeed. This session will take a look at these requirements from the perspective of working with LGBTQ+ and HIV+ residents, each of which is, or is expected to be, an increasingly-visible population within these types of facilities, and provide practical tips on how best to serve people in these contexts.
Phil Duran, Senior Advocate, Aging & Gender Care Access, Rainbow Health

204: Did you notice that? Managing AL notice requirements
Audience: Assisted living facility
Terminations. Transfers. Emergency relocations. CHOWs. Changing licensee information. All of these things (and more) require written notices under the assisted living law. Through the use of case scenarios, this session will identify the different circumstances under which assisted living providers must issue written notices and to whom. The required content and the timing of each type of notice will also be discussed, as will the consequences of not satisfying notice requirements.
Michelle Klegon, Attorney, Klegon Law Office, Ltd

205: Survey tag to savings
Audience: All audiences
In this session, we will discuss how our facility worked on a process for tracking expired foods after being tagged in survey, how the audits following the survey were not showing improvement, and how our journey led to a lean project with unexpected results.
Bobbijo Mathe, CDM, CFPP, Dietary Manager for Senior Services, Lakewood Health System
Jacque Bartczak, RN, QCP, Senior Services Quality Manager, Lakewood Health System
Karen Tetlie, CAP, Senior Services Administrative Assistant, Lakewood Health System

206: Who is the medical decision-maker?
Audience: All audiences
Guardianship, power of attorney, POLST, and advance directives. Who has the authority to make medical decisions for a patient who lacks medical decision-making capacity? Determining this can be tricky, especially when family members disagree on the course of care. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of how to navigate these various tools to help ensure that medical care aligns with patient choices.
Maggie Green, Associate Attorney, Winthrop & Weinstine, PA
Tracy Jacobs, Counsel, Winthrop & Weinstine, PA
Christianna Finnern, Shareholder, Winthrop & Weinstine, PA
