Combating coronavirus: Effective infection control in AL

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues to impact long-term care providers lives and the lives of those they serve. Providers are battling this disease on many fronts, aiming to keep it out of settings and facing it head-on to minimize infection rates if an outbreak occurs. Effective infection control is more crucial than ever. Care Providers of Minnesota is presenting this online workshop so assisted living providers may learn key strategies to combat the virus and aim to keep it out of their settings. .
This workshop will give tips and practical solutions on what effective staff and client surveillance looks like, infection control guidelines including who should wear what and when, planning for the worse-case scenario, training your staff, and preparing for a focused infection control survey.
Workshop objectives
Learn methods to screen and surveil clients and staff for signs and symptoms of COVID-19
Infection control guidelines for COVID-19 prevention: understand the standards of practice for COVID-19 prevention and control in assisted living settings
Gain insight and tools to prepare for an outbreak in your assisted living setting if one should occur
Learn how to prepare your staff through training and audits
Obtain guidance on MDH survey preparedness and survey planning
Presenters
Lisa Bahr, RN, PHN, LNHA
Infection Preventionist, Zellner Senior Health Consulting
Ms. Bahr has over 25 years of experience working in the long-term care industry including as a registered nurse, director of nursing, and a nursing home administrator. She has extensive knowledge of comprehensive home care, assisted living and housing rules, practice and standards that surround the senior care living environment. She has worked with the Zellner Senior Health Consulting team for over three years in a wide variety of positions and roles as an interim DON for skilled and assisted living services, an executive director and administrator and provided client leadership for MDH Stipulation Agreements, provided Minnesota Comprehensive Home Care start-up services. She has served in the leadership role as Project Manager for the Zellner Group team for the past two years.

Consultant, Zellner Senior Health Consulting
Dr. Dye has 20 years of experience working in various leadership and management roles in the acute care and long-term care setting. She is passionate about providing excellence in every aspect of the roles she fills and focuses on achieving the “WOW” factor always. She holds a PhD in Educational Leadership and Management, a Master’s in Business Administration, a Master’s in Nursing, and holds a Public Health Certification.
