Updated January 19, 2023
  • Total positive including reinfections: 1,747,751
  • Total deaths: 14,085
  • Total cases requiring hospitalization: 80,563
  • Total cases hospitalized in ICU: 13,675

Numbers are cumulative since January 20, 2020.

The number of lab-confirmed positive tests among Minnesota residents will be updated weekly on the “Situation Update for COVID-19” webpage on the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) website with data as of 4:00 AM on the Tuesday prior. The page also includes a map of counties with confirmed cases, data by race/ethnicity, and more.

This total reflects only the results from laboratory testing. There are more cases in Minnesota, and the virus is circulating in communities. It is important for everyone to take steps to protect themselves and others through vaccination, testing, staying home when sick, and more.

Updated January 19, 2023
  • People with at least one vaccine dose: 4,007,530
  • People with completed vaccine series: 3,782,463
  • People up to date with vaccine doses: 1,292,253

Hospitalizations
Hospitals are still operating at or near capacity throughout the state, but pressures from COVID-19, as well as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), have decreased. New COVID-19 admits to hospital decreased to 7.9 per 100,000 from 9.5 per 100,000 last week. ED visits with a COVID-19 diagnosis decreased from 2.5% to 2.0%. Inpatient visits with a COVID-19 diagnosis decreased from 4.1 to 3.7%.

COVID-19 cases
Reported COVID-19 cases are down in almost every region of Minnesota. The exception is west central Minnesota, where cases (barely) rose in the past week of data.

Deaths
COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota gradually fell to around five deaths per day in late December after averaging around eight deaths per day in late fall. Mortality data is still coming in for early January, but the daily average has again gone up to an average of eight deaths and could rise further as data is finalized.
