How we got here

Our affiliation with quality is not something new--it has been an integral part of Care Providers of Minnesota for nearly 50 years. Beginning with member accreditation efforts in the 1970s; mock surveys in the 1980s; the first of its kind American Health Care Association (AHCA) Facilitator in the 1990s; and more recently, Committed to Quality campaign, Statements of Trust, and the Baldrige based Quality Awards—in partnership with our national associations AHCA/NCAL.

Why it matters

  • IMPROVE OUTCOMES: Quality improvement skills, combined with a culture of quality, improve outcomes not just in the area that might be the focus of a quality-related grant, but in other areas as well--for example, regulatory compliance.
  • NEW WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER: Quality improvement projects have ushered in new ways in which long term care providers can work together--and can work with health care colleagues.
  • WORKFORCE RETENTION: Our workforce, who work most closely with residents and patients, are at the core of providing quality care and those who are most deeply impacted by negative outcomes—quality improvement can be a core tool in workforce retention.
  • IMPROVE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: Focus on quality improvement has caused us to focus on the experience of care from the standpoint of the consumer and their families, which in turn improves our customer satisfaction metrics and marketing.
  • TARGET IMPROVEMENT AREAS: Quality improvement tools have been proven to have a predictive element to help providers target the areas where they most need to improve—thus improving both key metrics and regulatory compliance outcomes.
  • ALIGN ORGANIZATION: Quality improvement processes help to align the organization around who they are, what is important, and how they can differentiate themselves from others in a competitive environment, which can be great recruitment tools for board members, leaders, workforce, families and other key external stakeholders.
  • SUSTAINABLE ORGANIZATIONS: Organizations with an investment in quality improvement will be able to sustain themselves even if senior leaders depart.
