AL survey tip—Use MDH survey checklist to determine compliance with some of the physical environment requirements

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) shared a
survey checklist back in December 2021 that their engineering department surveyors are using to determine compliance with some of the assisted living physical environment requirements. Providers are encouraged to use the same tool to self-audit your building for compliance. The checklist covers select requirements from 144G that surveyors are looking for in the following areas:
- Minimum physical environment requirements
- Fire protection and physical environment
- Local laws applicability
- Additional fire protection and physical environment requirements for assisted living with dementia care
If you have not used this resource, I would recommend you take a few minutes to review it and determine if your building is compliant.
